Relationship at its heart

Central to the Karis Kids model is relationship.

It’s our hope that, through both prayer and friendship, you will regularly encourage one another. Both UK and Ugandan families share each other’s lives through letters, photos and sometimes video too.

Locally, our community workers visit every family. We also organise special celebrations for the families and regular get-togethers for parents, which focus on life skills such as parenting or money-management.

Bishop Zac Niringiye

It’s truly a Kingdom model of partnership for the gospel — a real sharing of the gifts of God's grace. Families and churches in the UK experience the joy of generously sharing their wealth. Families and churches in Kampala are empowered to reach out to orphans and vulnerable children, sharing their story of God’s grace amidst scarcity.

— Bishop Zac Niringiye

What makes Karis Kids different?

The 6 key distinctives of Karis Kids

1

100% of your donation helps your family

Private donors cover our operating costs so 100% of your donation goes towards helping your family in Kampala.

Through Gift Aid, the UK government (supplemented by our Link Churches) pays the salaries of the Kampala staff along with their overheads.

2

We support the whole family

Well-intended child sponsorship programmes can create family divisions. For example, a sponsored child may be given a mattress but the parent, having never owned one before, takes it for themselves.

By sponsoring the whole family we help everyone progress together.

Bishop Zac Niringiye

I don’t believe in orphanages. As the Psalmist declared, ‘God sets the lonely in families.’ God wants us all to be in families.

— Bishop Zac Niringiye

3

The local church do the work

If we want to see sustainable change, the work of transformation must come from those who live there, not well-intentioned outsiders.

We build relationship and empower those on the ground, in the culture, to rewrite the story of their community.

4

Families grow to support themselves

We help each child break the cycle of poverty through education, opportunity and job training. This, in turn, helps families become self-sustaining.

5

Two-way Transformation

This is not simply a one-sided programme of social relief. We believe it’s about seeing God’s grace (Greek: charis) transform both UK and Ugandan families as we invest in our relationship. It’s for all of us together.

6

We share Jesus

A Ugandan family can have any faith or none at all to join our programme. We don’t discriminate by religion.

However, with words and actions, we share the good news of Jesus. And we see many respond to his love and give their lives to him.
