Finishing Well stories

Reporting by Solome Kalagala. Edited by Wendy Allyss and Will Law.

In August, we published stories about Abdul & Aisha and Nana & Annabel and their wonderful Finishing Well stories.

This month we have two more…

Brenda

In 2022, Brenda completed her studies and graduated with a Certificate in Catering.

Her grandmother, Kleophas, worked tirelessly to ensure Brenda enjoyed a bright future. Sadly Kleophas passed away before witnessing Brenda graduate. She is fondly remembered by Brenda, her whole family, and the Karis team, who cherish her memory and heart.

After completing her studies, Brenda struggled to find formal employment. Unemployment rates are very high in Kampala. And so the Finishing Well programme was timely.

Using the Finishing Well funds, the KFLM team set Brenda up with a business of her own in Kasangati. Brenda now buys and sells kitchenware and plastics, and manages a drinks business.

Brenda’s excitement is obvious and she has pledged to work hard to ensure this business thrives.

We pray for her growing success.

Joan

Piror to Finishing Well, Joan ran a general merchandise shop from her house. Joan’s children set this up to keep her active and help with her mental health. The shop had proven to be very helpful in that regard.

However, along the way, the many urgent needs of the family took precedence and the business collapsed. Almost everything needed restocking.

As the family approached the final stage of Finishing Well, the KFLM team chatted with all the children. It was unanimously agreed to plough all the funds into Joan’s shop — and this is precisely what they did!

Repairs were made, stock was purchased and the spare money was used to start a mobile money business.

Here is Seruga Joan in her newly refurbished and stocked shop; ready for business!

Two heartwarming Finishing Well stories to celebrate. And we have even more planned.
